The black and red upper on this Jordan 1 Mid is a modern version of the 1985 Banned model with a few modifications. An Air-infused white midsole separates the University Red outsole from the leather upper, its cushioned interior providing a padded step to go alongside the sturdy traction offered by the underfoot grip patterns. These shift from star-shaped nodes around the toe through circular structures below the forefoot to broad lugs beneath the heel for comprehensive support all the way along the length of the foot.

Durable leather fills out the upper, whose combination of black and University Red panels creates a bold aesthetic. The darker tone appears on the forefoot mudguard and the pair of overlays behind it, before moving through the quarter and up the sides of the mid-top collar. Meanwhile, the vivid shade of red stands out on the toe box, with its breathable ventilation holes, and the eyestay as it emerges from beneath the forefoot overlays. It also decorates the heel counter and the collar wrap, which has a pair of Air Jordan Wings printed in black upon it. This panel goes on to fold over the front of the collar to hold the uppermost two eyelets on each side.

Black laces tie up towards the top of the black tongue, where a woven patch in the same hue has been placed, a University Red Jumpman and Air lettering embroidered into its surface. Inside, everything is black but for the off-white Jumpman silhouette on the sockliner. Back on the outer, University Red tones coat the sidewall swooshes, which extend from a small piece of leather on the heel to land powerfully across the dark midfoot panels in culmination of this iconic colorway.
