During the 2010s, Nike embarked on a mission to create an advanced running shoe that would change the way athletes performed. In 2020, this led to the release of the first Alphafly silhouette, and in 2022, the brand followed it up with an even more powerful model: the Nike Alphafly 2.

The sole unit of the Alphafly 2 combines three cutting-edge technologies which complement each other perfectly to deliver a comfortable, lightweight shoe with incredible energy-return that reduces fatigue and improves recovery. The stacked midsole is made from springy ZoomX foam, Zoom Air pods provide responsive cushioning in the forefoot and the sculpted full-length carbon-fiber plate propels the runner forwards with each step.

While the original Alphafly was designed for elite athletes, Nike expanded its research to include a wider range of runners on the second iteration. This brought about a series of updates that make the Alphafly 2 a great option for amateurs and professionals alike. The specialized rubber outsole is durable but thin, thus allowing space for more ZoomX foam in the midsole, in particular beneath the Zoom Air pods, where it creates even greater energy return. Meanwhile, the tread has been carefully crafted to produce excellent multidirectional grip, and both toe and forefoot have been widened for enhanced stability.

As a whole, the sole unit is shaped like a rocker that curves upwards at both ends. When combined with the heel-to-toe drop, which has been increased from 4mm to 8mm so that the wearer is encouraged to make better use of the forefoot Zoom Air, it facilitates a smooth transition through the foot.

The upper is made from a super-lightweight Atomknit material that is highly breathable. It has been engineered to fit the contours of the foot, with extra padding around the heel and over the top giving soft comfort. On top of this, the integrated tongue produces a sock-like feel, the notched laces give a secure fit and the dual pull tabs make it easy to put on.

Esthetically, the Nike Alphafly 2 comes in several vibrant colorways. A dynamic swoosh swoops along its lateral side for an energetic look that matches its speedy design, while its large sole unit is strikingly distinctive. Although solid at short distances, this high-tech performance runner truly excels over many miles, where it becomes one of the fastest, most long-lasting and most energy-efficient models available.
