Nike’s popular series of Phantom football boots goes back as far as 2013, since which time it has split into a number of different models. One of these is the versatile GX, which is built to provide precision in all areas of the game. In 2024, the Phantom GX 2 was released, taking the innovative silhouette to new levels of refinement and quality.

The upper of the Nike Phantom GX 2 is made from a cutting-edge material known as Gripknit, which incorporates a slightly sticky substance that works with its textured exterior to produce the conditions for exceptional ball control. This is enhanced even further by the prominently embossed rings that ripple out from the medial side of the forefoot all the way across the toe to the other side of the shoe, creating a so-called Strike Zone. The offset laces have been slightly reorganized to offer a larger surface area for making clean contact with the ball so that the player can receive, dribble and pass it on with ease.

The low-cut Flyknit collar and contoured heel counter, with its asymmetrical seam, serve to hold the foot in place and protect the Achilles from harm. Meanwhile, the updated lacing system can be adjusted to suit a wide range of foot shapes to provide a great fit and excellent lockdown to all players.

Underfoot, the Phantom GX 2 features an innovative Cyclone 360 soleplate whose bladed studs have been arranged in such a way that they produce excellent traction while preventing the foot from sticking in the ground, thus facilitating confident movement. A circle of studs appears directly below the toes to enhance twisting motions so that skillful players can achieve high levels of ball control in tight spaces. 

Along with its exceptional performance, the Phantom GX 2 comes in a range of bold and striking colorways, including the Electric Pack, which was produced for the 2024 Olympics. In terms of branding, everything is kept subtle and refined, with a series of swoosh logos placed stylishly across the upper and Phantom GX lettering down the heel. Shortly after its release in 2024, Nike produced a special edition with prolific Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, giving it a vivid red orange upper and an eye-catching iridescent soleplate.
