Shox Ride 2
Nike’s innovative Shox cushioning system was first introduced in 2000. Designed to provide bouncy, responsive underfoot support, it was initially used on athletic models for sports like running and basketball. One of these was the Shox Ride 2 – a stylish silhouette that made a comeback over 20 years later.
The Nike Shox Ride 2 is built upon a comfortable sole unit that contains two different types of cushioning. See-through windows on either side of the forefoot show off soft pillows of Air Max padding, while the heel features the distinctive columns of the mechanical Shox system. The Ride 2 has four Shox pillars positioned in such a way that they deliver a spring-like sensation underfoot.
On the upper, a base of breathable mesh works together with various perforations around the heel area to bring cooling ventilation across the entire foot. Both real and synthetic leather has been used to form swooping panels over the sidewalls, with additional overlays for durability on the toe and heel. Thin bands of TPU join together at a swoosh on each flank, with a smaller one embroidered onto the toe.
A unique Nike Shox logo has been placed inside a rubberized bubble on the heel, with another one on the tongue that is surrounded by a circular overlay. This eventually stretches down the tongue, forming into a convenient loop to hold the laces in place. More Shox logos appear on the insole and the outsole, which is covered in ring-shaped rubber grip pads for high levels of grip.
The Shox Ride 2 was initially reimagined in a collaboration with Supreme in 2022. The American lifestyle brand crafted four captivating colorways decorated in unique branding but otherwise displaying the chunky esthetic of the original shoe. This popular collaboration led to a true retro revival in 2024, which began with the classy Light Bone and Turf Orange colorway.
The powerful blend of cushioning technologies supporting the Nike Shox Ride 2 ensure that it is a comfortable shoe for everyday wear, while its bold Y2K esthetic gives it nostalgic appeal and an unforgettable charm.
