Zoom Fly 6

In 2017, Nike created a training shoe that could act as a companion to its super-fast racing silhouettes. Known as the Zoom Fly, it featured the brand’s most cutting-edge technologies and a sturdier build for everyday use. In 2024, Nike released the next silhouette in the series, the Zoom Fly 6, calling it “the ultimate super trainer”.

Updates have been made to almost every part of the Nike Zoom Fly 6, beginning with the sole unit, which contains more ZoomX foam than any of its predecessors. This lightweight, responsive material delivers exceptional energy return, while the layer of SR-02 EVA foam beneath it brings the kind of durability expected of a training shoe. Together, these foams reach 42mm at the heel – the tallest of any Nike racing silhouette – so that they provide comfort and protection over many miles. Placed between the two layers is a full-length carbon-fiber plate that serves to stabilize the foot and improve running efficiency by facilitating a smooth transition through each step.

The outsole of the Zoom Fly 6 is formed of an extra-thin layer of rubber and located only where it is needed: in the forefoot and heel, thus helping to reduce the shoe’s weight by 10% over the previous edition. In addition, the waffle grip pods lined up across it produce outstanding grip on a range of surfaces, and the tough material it is made from can withstand long-term wear-and-tear.

The streamlined upper consists of a dual-layered, breathable mesh that fits snugly around the foot. Designed to give the runner the same feeling they would get from a racing shoe, it is lightweight, durable and comfortable, with a little extra padding around the collar and heel, as well as over the tongue. This last feature is thin, wide and partially gusseted to reduce slippage during training, adding to the shoe’s excellent lockdown.

When the Zoom Fly 6 was launched in November 2024, Nike chose to honor legendary Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge for his help testing the shoe. His design features a distinctive orange red tone on the sole unit resembling that of the clay tracks he trains on every day. Meanwhile, its upper has the same exaggerated lateral swoosh and smaller medial one as the other release editions alongside other signature details, including his initials and his famous motto: “No Human Is Limited”.

Built as the ultimate training silhouette, the Nike Zoom Fly 6 has been graced with the same powerful technology as the brand’s racing shoes and thus shares many of the same properties. As such, it can be worn on race days, while its durable adaptations mean that it can support athletes through their daily exercise routines as well, making it one of the most effective training shoes around.
