The Cloudmonster series began in 2022, when On released its first take on the modern high-stack running shoe. In 2024, the brand iterated on this original model, making several effective updates to the Cloudmonster 2 to provide an even more responsive design.

Built upon a large sole unit featuring a new dual-density midsole atop a tough rubber outsole, the On Cloudmonster 2 offers comfort, impact protection and stability. This powerful blend is delivered by the largest volume CloudTec midsole in the series so far, incorporating several extra millimeters of Helion superfoam which has been split into two different types: one firm, the other soft.

Set between the layers of foam is a sturdy nylon-based Speedboard with an updated shape. Alongside the cushioning material and the forefoot rocker, this produces maximum responsiveness, stabilizes the foot and facilitates a smooth transition from heel to toe. The Cloudmonster 2 is also supported by a grippy outsole made from slightly harder rubber than its predecessor, making it highly durable without compromising on traction. Broad flex grooves in its surface allow freedom of movement, while its wider base brings yet more stability to the silhouette.

The On Cloudmonster 2’s engineered mesh upper features a new construction that is hard-wearing but still allows some breathability. It has a high-quality feel, with plush padding around the collar to hold the heel more firmly in place. The gusseted tongue also helps with this, as do the stretchy eyelets, which allow the wearer to adapt the traditional lacing to precisely match their own preferences, ultimately leading to solid overall lockdown.

Since its 2024 release, the Cloudmonster 2 has been bolstered by the creation of several collaborative models. One of these was with French running specialists DISTANCE, who kept much of the shoe’s stylish minimalist esthetic but also added signature effects, including their elegant logo on the tongue and the brand name on the lateral flank. More rebellious designs have been crafted with unconventional South Korean menswear label Post Archive Faction and renowned streetwear boutique INVINCIBLE, bringing a fashion-forward look to the Cloudmonster 2.
